My buddy Adam Tourek, on the right, just won a design contest finishing first out of eight finalists. He has been commisioned to build a gigantic 12 foot tall ear in Lincoln, NE Haymarket district. The final project for his “Memorials, Monuments and Public Art” class was to make a model for a 6 foot sculpture to be placed in the Haymarket. It wasn’t till last night at the awards ceremony that he found out his 1 foot model would actually be 12 feet. Here is the full story from the Daily Nebraskan. The article says the sculpture could be rotated, but Adam says that was in the proposal, not actually finalized. I suggested that a weathervaning foghorn would be kinda fun. All the scrap metal is being donated by Lincoln Steel and he hopes to begin work the beginning of May. I’ll get some pics up when he gets his hands back on the model. Once again I’d like to say great job Adam. I’m sure a giant piece of installed art is an excellent addition to a graduating art student’s portfolio.
